GTPMP3 Carputer...Lots o' pics...
Well, figured my first post should be a good one...
Here it is...
The Car:
'98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP
A few pics of the trunk contents...
Single Infinity Kappa 10" Sub. in the trunk. It may look small but this thing hits like a 12 while still sounding tight like a 10. Crunch Drive V 600W 4Ch., and 150W 2Ch. bridged mono to 250W pushing the Sub. All Stinger wires. You might have noticed the little computer power supply to the left of the sub...well, we'll discuss that down the page a little bit...
The Fans glow blue and turn on when radio turns on. The AMPs glow blue as well. Looks pretty cool at night.
The rest of the "standard" setup consists of a Pioneer DEH-4300 head unit, Infinity Kappa seperates up front, and Infinity Kappa 6 1/2" Composites in the rear deck.
True it's not the only carputer ever put in a Grand Prix, BUT it's the only one I've seen that fits in the arm rest...
Here are the specs:
Carputer: EPIA M-9000
Case: Two sheets of plexi screwed together to form a "T" and Mounted in armrest.
Display: No-Name 7" wide screen TFT.
Power: eMachine 180W AC-DC PSU W/ 300W inverter.
Storage: IBM Travelstar 40Gig. Laptop HD, Pioneer 16x Slot Load DVD
Sound: M-Audio Sonica USB Sound Device w/ emulated 5.1 Surround Sound.
Controls: Creative Credit Card Remote, Griffin Powermate, Touchpad w/ guesture recognition, USB Keyboard (for GPS and MAME), 2 USB Gravis Destroyer TILT controlers for MAME.
Misc.: 4 port USB hub mounted in passenger side of armrest for Keyboard and controlers when playing MAME. USB to Serial adaptor for Rand McNally GPS
Software: Windows XP Pro, Map Point 2002, 4500+ MP3s, 3200+ MAME ROMs, and lots of DVDs. Media Engine V1.7, waiting for Media Engine V2.0...
Here is another picture to give you a better idea as to how it looks.
A shot of the Touchpad and Powermate.
A Pic of the side of the arm rest where the intake fan is.
What my desktop used to look like.
Mike Portnoy tearing up the skins in the Dream Theater Metropolis 2002 DVD.
Here is what my new desktop looks like when running my custom skin in Media Engine.
Let me know what you think!!!!

No. Some people do the hibernate thing and they say they can let it run a few days while the car is parked, but I don't feel comfertable doing that. I have the red lit power button and the griffen power mate that "breathes" blue. (very slow pulse). I think it would draw too much attention at night.
I just turn the screen off and pause the music. The computer doesn't draw much power. Maybe 60W total. Just the motherboard by itself only draws about 14W. Even though the inverter is a 300W, it will only draw what it needs to power whatever is plugged into it.
BTW. what's with the friggin' huge signature pic?
