Default dynoed the car to day.

well, both head gaskets are blown. the motor started braking up at 5500. i think the guy used the wrong valve springs or i had too little timing. i only had 33 total. the guy gets out of the car and say you have to much motor for you converter. i tell him the stall is a new ati. it must of been the trans slipping. he said it's wasn't a good pull and he's sure it makes more power. but with the blown heads gasket. we didn't want to try it again. i'm off to pull the heads off

i guess the #'s aren't that bad for a motor with a blown head gaskets and a slipping trans.

good news, he didn't have to tune the carb. he said the #'s where perfect.

350 rwhp@ 5000r's threw 5800r's around 340 lbs QT all the way across until it started braking up..

That sucks. You gonna change the valve springs while you have them off?

i'm doing the hole motor over. i'm doing it myself this time. i had 6 blown cylinders both heads are warped and there's not any way i can get the compression down without a complete rebuild. i guess 350 at the wheels isn't that bad with 6 blown cylinders and a slipping trans.

there's a link to the gaskets.

just had the heads done, all 8 cylinders were warped. i guess all 8 where blown. after looking at both sides of the head gasket better i could see they where all blown. for anything over 11 to 1 a extra head blot should be intalled. i had 12 to 1 without the extra head bolt. that's where all the cylinders blew out.

he had to take .007 off both heads to get them flat. the spring wheren't setup right, he had to install a .060 shim so i did have valve float. i paided for titanium retainers and i didn't get them for the guy i bought the heads from.

i'm happy with what that little cam made. 224/232 @ .050 it's going to work really good for the wifes daily driver. i figured the trans was slipping 7% plus the stalls 3% using the rpm/mph. the motor started breaking up at 5500 so we'll see what it makes at 6200r's next time around. i'll be shocked if it doesn't pull 375-400 at the wheels.

the torque wasn't right. it was 340lbs from 4200-5500. so i'm thinking the trans couldn't take anymore than 340lbs of torque.

i'm putting that cam in the wife's 401 with indy heads. so it'll be a clone of my blown up motor but with 10.5 to 1, edelbrock airgap and a 2500 stall. i'm stepping up to a bigger cam and a 3500 stall. somewhere in the 232-235@ .050 range. i'm going to make sure i have over 400 rwhp NA

i hope to be up and running with a new trans and motor in two months.

Do you know what the spring pressures were before he added the .060 shims? What was it on the seat and at full lift?

don't know, i didn't ask. i picked up another set of indy heads last week. my old indy heads that are setup for that small cam are going in the wifes motor with that small cam. i need to get my heads ported and order my new cam, springs and intake. pull the motor and trans and send the trans to CRT. it'll be a few months before i'm on the road again.

i over heated my boat two weeks ago so i'm fixing that first. i'm going to pull the head cover off this weekend and pray i don't brake any bolts. (125 outboard)
