Car story
In an effort to keep this board alive, jeez, where is everyone?, I thought I'd post this story which, to me, is weird, ironic and cool all at the same time.
Earlier this week I ran across a post on a Camaro board I belong to from a guy near Tampa looking for someone in the area to go to the Camaro Nationals with next summer.
I contact the guy(Perry) and turns out he has a '70 Z almost identical to mine except his is an RS split bumper car. Also turns out that his car was the car ERTL used to make their diecast model, which I happen to have one of, btw. Now here's where the story gets crazy.
He tells me he's from New York and just moved here a few years ago. He had owned his car for 15+ years and then sold it. He got the bug last year, tracked the car down out in California, bought it and brought it to Florida. Then he tells me when he was in NY his good friend(also named Tom) had a car just like mine and they used to show them side by side at all the National events and usually place 1 and 2. Just not always in the same order. Basically they had a friendly rivalry amongst themselves.
So, anyway, the story sounds neat so I call Jack(the guy I bought my car from)because he knows everyone in the Camaro world being the head judge for the ACA. I tell him the story and he starts laughing and says, "yeah, not only is everything he's telling you true, but you(meaning me) own his buddy Tom's car!" I'm like, what? Come to find out, Jack bought Tom's car, restored it to more current standards and showed it for about 5 years then sold it to me.
So soon, 2 cars that have spent alot of time together and were split up and shipped to completely opposite sides of the country, will be reunited. We hope to have them together at Carlisle for the Nationals, maybe Orlando in Feb for the Winter Nationals, and definately at any local events we can make. Possibly even Wendy's one night in the near future.

That is cool. I was at a car show a last year and kept eying this black 65 Mustang parked nearby. So after awhile I go over and talk to the owner and it turns out it was my buddys old car. I remember going to pick it up with him in Palm Harbor at lunch years ago. After talking with him I figured he had muscle car blues, all he did is complain about the money he had put into it.
That's awesome.
I've got a story but nothing as cool as that. My dad always has good stories for me.
My parents moved from Indiana to California and my dads mom stayed in Indy. After being in Cal. for a few yrs my grandma didn't have any use for her 55' Chevy anymore so she asked my dad if he wanted it. Of course he did but he couldn't leave work at the time to go get it. So he had an apprentice that worked for him who wanted to go on vacation, soooo my dad asked him if he wanted to go to Indiana lol. My dad paid his plane ticket there and he took a two week vacation and drove the car back to my dad. My dad added this to his collection w/ the El Camino and old Honda. Well later I was born and lucky for me they bring me home from the hospital in the 55'
.
I actually just dug up the slides of the 55', the El Camino and the Honda about a month ago. I want to get them made into prints and I'll post em up.
