Default Exhaust for '62 Impala

Hey, I'm currently restoring my grandfathers '62 Impy and im wandering what kind of exhaust I should get for it. He's looking for that Flowmaster sound to it. It currently has a 283 in it, but in the coming months I'll be putting a 350 in it. Thanks in advance.

What kind of performance are you looking to get out of it? Looking to street it? I've got some hooker long tubes to dual 2.5" pipes to dual Dynomax SuperTurbo mufflers. It has that classic muscle car sound and still develops plenty of torque due to the mufflers being chambered.

I've got Hooker Super Comps 1 3/4" tubes, 2 1/2" dual exhasust w/ an H pipe, and Flowmasters. It sounds great imo. Depending on what kind of power you'll be making will depend on what size header tubes you go with.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but one of the things I like about Flowmasters are there is no material in them to burn away over time. Mine have lasted probably 8+ yrs now and still produce the same sound. They haven't gotten louder like some do over time. They have diferent ones for how loud you want them. It's been so long but I think mine are #2's.

Rainbow Mufflers on Belcher and Ulmerton did mine.

I have flowmasters, other than sounding somewhat like a mustang exhaust, I love them. The only other ones I would buy would be the Dynomax's. In perf. tests, the numbers were almost identical.

And rainbow does excellent work and are very muscle car friendly. The guy wouldnt even pull my car into the bay after I lined it up with his stall outside. And they did no welding until they made sure it was ok with me first. good people.

yea flowmasters have no glasspacking or anything, they just have steel baffles inside. Cant go wrong with flowmaster.

3 inch exhaust the whole way through with the 350, Franks headers are great, tight fit and great performance/cost.

Any pictures? I LOVE the early model impalas sooo much!
