no CELs or anything? who tuned it? they left your car running that way after being tuned?

when he finished tuning it was running that way? was it doing that before tuning?
has he ever tuned a blow-thru before?

Kyle you know how i feel about the Blow-thru.
your numbers are to low for something like that!
The blow thru is only for 600+hp
This is my theory, The maf is located way higher on the intercooler piping. Take into consideration your running a 3 inch.
The car isnt idleing high enough to get proper A/F mixture! because its not bringing in enough air.
By the time your maf see's air, to much fuel has been introduced!
Only thing that can solve this IMO is raising the idle to around 900rpm!

i dont think thats true
i was suggested to run the blow-thru on my setup and i was only making about 450whp. it helps tune the car's idle and get a more precise tune. think of it this way. the MAP sensor is located on the intake, the car reads the air at that point. the air has to travel a good distance prior to entering the motor on a FMIC setup. its about 6-8 feet total after the MAP sensor it has to go into the inlet pipe, to the turbo, through the pipe, through the intercooler, into the next pipe, up back through the engine bay, and then finally entering the throttle body. this is why the blow-thru setup is really effective on 375whp and up. the air is read at a more precise time, just prior to entering the throttle body. youll see alot of cars come stock with their MAP sensors right on or near the throttle body.

one downfall to most of the tuning programs is they have to be tuned via the MAP sensor. good thing like the Hydra system and the new AEM where the car can be tuned without it.

haha i know! ahem anyone want to sponsor?
so i just got done reading a thread on nasioc about tuning blow thru with open ecu and they talked about the horrible idle and what they did to fix it... and all the people who have them even with simple setups say them love them once its tuned in correctly just that it takes a lot more time to get it good
blacksti
07-28-2008, 06:31 PM
ps anyone have the cable they would let me borrow so i can try seeing if i can fix this myself?
ryan_west06
07-28-2008, 07:00 PM
all kyles system only point to the MAF! rough idle, boggy around 2-3k
I think it has to do with the Blow-thru.
just buy the tactrix cable. its only $80. For the amount of time itll take to fix your problem, itll be worth it.

This is the 1st I have heard that there was an issue (and my phone has been the whole time). The car was running good when we stopped on Saturday when the huge lightning/rain rolled in.
SnowMann
07-29-2008, 09:56 AM
...but it sounds like the Tip-in enrichment (coolant temp) needs adjustment at the cooler temps as we didnt have an issue once it was warmed up.

That's not true at all!! I've dealt with many blow-throughs...first be sure tubing sizes have been calibrated...
aside from that is sounds like a coolant-temp/tip-in issue...as that gets overlooked a lot. Also due to how tuning happens is often left to a best guess, as you only have so much time to tune a cold motor ;)
best thing to do is cut the crap and get a real EM...the factory ECU is really only decent to about 450whp IMHO...beyond that you really can start to find drivability issues because you are beyond the refinement of the factory ECU. Hydra or AEM time!
If you are having some issues hit my buddy dom up on getadomtune.com (let him know I sent you).
he's been one of the forefront open ecu tuners and know's the ins and outs...

Faded you are mistaking map for maf sensor.;) Kyle, where did you dyno 330whp? that's weak sauce for a green. What made you go blowthrough anyway?

i didnt dyno im going by estimated from running other cars... i ran this gst from a roll that this nich with the wrx and 18g ran and i did the same as what he did....
everyone told me to go blow thru that it would be better for tuning...

^ it is better for tuning if you are running a stand alone. But if you are using the stock ecu it is more of a pain in the ass then anything

yea i get told that after i buy it haha im gonna have to bite the bullet and save for an aem might as well get it over with now plus josh is going to give me a great deal on one once i get money but i would like to have the car running decent until then so it doesnt stall in traffic and kill me

just get rid of the blow thru and be done with it. You dont need it. your gonna throw a bunch more money at the problem when you could just tune it without the blow thru.

So what is the point of a blow thru?
ryan_west06
07-31-2008, 12:26 PM
basically to relocate the MAF for intake temp reasons and easier to tune the MAF!
Your moving the MAF onto the intercooler piping before the throttle body. so inturn, the mass air flow will see more accurate air intake temps.

why not put it back to the other set up untill you can afford a EM Utec, AEM, or hydra. that way your car wont be running like crap and you wont have to spend more money.......
just a thought

of course the VE fueling of MAP based fueling is better for high HP cars, but unless that maf is pegged there is still potencial in the setup.
it just needs to be tuned better in the daily driving aspect. the tune seems conservetive and once the meth is tuned on it should tune into a new beast.
