I'm trying to decide which direction to go in with my Mach 1. I was going to build a mean NA motor, but I am considering a whipple... Anyone have a whippled 03-04 cobra that they wouldn't mind giving me a ride in? I've been in some unique cars with some crazy power adders, but as strange as it sounds, I've never been in a modded 03-04 termie and I've only driven one when it was new/stock at the dealer (test drive!)

Screw the whipple. Go with a custom turbo kit and call it a day. Some of the 03/04 are ditching the whipple system and going turbo (single or twin). Just some food for thought......

 

That was a potential option, but it's just too much damn money. I also don't like how the hellion kits go UNDER the K-member. AFAIK, Hellion is the only one that fits with a MM K-member, which I plan on using. I don't want ao PA K-member - or other drag racing spec setup. I don't trust other turbo companies to stay in business long enough to delever the entire package.

 

Yeah Im not fond of the Hellion kit either or other fly-by-night turbo companys. check with sam @ coastal. theyve done numerous turbo cars and might be something to look into. your right though. it can get expensive. but putting the money toward a whipple kit only to still want a turbo system down the road youll be spending money twice. dont you have a cammer motor in the car now with fr500 heads/cams or something? spend your money ONCE and Im sure youll be happy when its done.

 

Stock heads, but it has cams and a few other $$ N/A parts. I think I'm just going to continue down that road. I'll spank pullied terminators with my N/A setup

i know everyone has their own opinion on turbo companys, but hellion is definately not one of the fly by night companys. they have one of the best fitting, tested, no hacking up your car turbo kits out there. i would do a little research and you will see what i am talking about. i myself am doing a single turbo on my cobra right now, but it is not hellion, just so you dont think im defending them b-cuz i am using their product. you also have the option of buying the new 3.4 whipple that just came out or kenne bell 2.8 if you want to use a twin screw setup. there are a lot of options availible it just depends on what your plans on for your car.

 

They are pretty damn fun. I tode i Johns when had it. third gear was just pretty sick. 470rwhp, 3.55 gears and revving it out... I was near 120 and had to let off and still had a bit of rpm left in it just for third gear.

 

It is not as expensive as you think, especially if you do all the groundwork yourself. Personally I think the kits are way overpriced and I hear nothing but fitment problems with them.

I sourced all the parts myself (many used) and saved a ton I am sure. Then got with TJ and Sam at COastal and came up with how I wanted it piped. The TIG work TJ does is far superior to anything you are going to find pre-fabbed.

A see more Terminators at Coastal getting the blowers taken off than anything else these days.
