Default please share your experiences.....

i am about to change the clutch out on my 96 hatch. what are the things that are commonly forgotten? i will be replacing the flywheel also. what weight flywheel do i want for a stock car? i see a lot of 8lb flywheels but i think stock is 16lb. what do i use? what are common problems? any special tools besides clutch alignment tools? how much fluid do i need? DOT 3 the best to use? (keep in mind this is stock, but driven hard) what are some good local places that will sell a clutch/flywheel combo inexpensively (not CHEAP just inexpensive)? thanks guys/girls..... -kyle

Fidanza flywheel ftw...deff. look into getting a lightweight flywheel if you still want to look stock but be faster.

you don't need anything lighter than 11 or 12 lbs for normal street driven cars. any thing less is going to change your stop and go traffic feel.

yes, don't go to light, you will regret. when installing the flywheel and clutch make sure you use proper torque specs for both the flywheel and the clutch, when tightening the clutch to the flywheel only turn each bolt a couple turns at a time and use a star pattern, keep tightening untill the fingers of the clutch plate are all even, keep in mind the torque specs. properly lube the bearing and clutch fork. one of the hardest parts of getting the tranny back on is lining up the spline on the tranny and clutch. make sure your jack is adequate! Tools: torque wrench, breaker bar, and all the other standard tools. if I remember correctly you never need to open up the clutch line for any reason, the slave cylinder should unbolt from the tranny and never be a problem. Good luck !

Look at this pic, this is on my eclipse but the idea is the same, Make sure the fingers on the pressure plate are all even like on my clutch !! as you tighten the bolts on the clutch the fingers nearest the bolt you are tightening will be pushed in toward the flywheel, if you turn any of the bolts to much at one time then you could damage the pressure plate.
