tps check engine light
if a throttle position sensor is not adjusted correctly, would it throw a code? i was thinking about it today, and my answer would be no, because it measures how much the throttle plate is open. so if its adjusted improperly, the ecu just thinks your foot is on the gas all the time. plus if it was adjusted improperly, it would always be running funny. am i right?
i was thinking, if the sensor itself was bad, such as corroded or a short or some type of problem, it could be a problem that throws a code, and the code stays, but the problem would be intermittent.
im about to spend $150 on a brand new throttle position sensor at advanced auto. i did just get a new throttle body with a new IAC and tps on it, well, rebuild anyways. i cleared the code, and it came right back, and its the tps malfunction. does it sound like the tps is bad?
i noticed that a few days ago, when the weather was warmer, the car ran great. but last night and today, its been running crappy. i dunno if that affects anything. i did however go through all the intake piping, fmic, etc, and looked for any leaks and loosend and then tightened all clamps, and put rtv on the j-pipe and the throttle body gaskets. if there are any leaks, it would have to be a hole somewhere that i didnt see, of the intake manifold. if the throttle position sensor IS working correctly, and the ecu throws a code for the TPS, what else could be the problem? also, the throttle percentage on the AFC reads 1,2,or 3 percent sometimes, even if the idle is lower or higher or bouncing around. im starting to suspect a loose wire. before i buy the sensor, im going to check all these little things. i just wanted to know if anybody can think of anything?
ohhh one more thing. when the car is idling nicely, it shifts better. when it idles nice, it slides into 1st gear, sometimes i might have to tap the gas a little, but it goes in with no grinding. when it idles like crap, it grinds all the time and locks in gear sometimes. dunno if that helps or not.
thank you guys for any info you may have?

I have the same TPS prbolem. Ive been throwing that code since I baught the car 8months ago. Its also throwing fuel trim. I change the o2 sensor if it would fix the problem and it did! For like 2 weeks tho and its came right back again. Ive had it erased several times and comes back 30min later so im giving up and going to buy a new TPS sensor! If you have AAA napa gives AAA discounts it comes out to like 130. A lil cheaper
