Default camaro front end help

a friend of mine has a '94. it's a 6cyl with 126k on it.

the problem is after about 25-30 minutes of driving the car starts to have a drag to it, like to the point where you don't need the brakes to come to a slow stop. also after 20-30 min of driving when the drag is occuring the car wont go over 60mph with out the front end shaking real bad. the drivers side front tire has a hot sort of smell and you could fry an egg on the rim it gets so hot. the front brakes are fairly new, any ideas? i was thinking some sort of bearing?

sounds like your caliper is sticking, you should be smelling your brakes after that!

good way to tell is if you have alot of brake dust on one side compared to the other----or in your case you can "fry an egg"

thanks for the help, would the caliper sticking be a problem that would only occur after some driving? is this common in the camaros? i was thinking bearings only because it takes a little driving before the problems shows. i will have to smell it next time i see him to see if i smell brakes.

thanks again.

Its either the caliper or wheel bearing.

How is your braking? Does the car stutter to a stop? If you have a severely warped rotor, you could be heading up the brakes to the point of contracting. I mean, in a perfect world brake fluid doesn't expand with heat, but that car in its 10 years probably has some air and/or moisture in the lines. That'd cause the car to lock up after driving for a while.

Also, if the caliper bore is whack, using the brakes for 20-30 minutes'll heat it up enough to expand and then lock the piston in the bore.

Also, could just be a plain old wore out wheel bearing. Pull the tire off and look at it, if it's that bad, the bearing should be close to dust.

Edit - Regardless, replace the wheel bearing even if it is the brakes. Heating it up that much probably fucked it up.
