-INTRO-
well, ive decided, i need to sell this car. i keep having these crazy ideas of motor swaps and im simply a few phone calls away from disgracing a truely rare car. someone NEEDS to take this car away from me because im making steps to install a Roller 302 V8 and T5 because its cheaper than rebuilding the 13B. I would much rather see someone take this car who has the time and money to restore it properly because i dont right now.

-SERVICE-
its been my bone-stock daily driver for the past 2 years. its served me QUITE well. It has NEVER ever let me down, save for a few maintenance items that needed replacing. the ONLY thing that has ever gone wrong with this car is a Clutch Slave line, replaced with Mazdatrix Braided SS line; Alternator, replaced with new unit and belt; TB coolant line under manifold, replaced and bypassed w/ full TB mod; Seized 6PI, completely removed ACV and 6PI system/sleeves [(VDI is now actuated via ball valve-regulated Air pump) OMP lines broke, now replaced w/ PTFE lines]; stock AM/FM radio, replaced with N.O.S. unit; Automatic Seatbelts, replaced with S4 manual belts; Front brakes, pads replaced and properly bedded and brake fluid flushed; Headlight switch, replaced w/ tested unit; Wiper switch, replaced w/ Icemark-refurbished unit.

-UPGRADES-
the only mods i have done to this car are Full TB mod, ACV/6PI removal, custom K&N FIPK, "massive" SpeedStar Racing wheels.

-DRIVABILITY-
When i bought the car, it came from West Palm beach, and has been in Florida its ENTIRE life. I have the original Owner's/Operator's Manual and dealer documentation as well as the Business car of the original Salesman. Also, i have the introductory Cassett Tape. Ironically, the GTUs only came with an AM/FM radio, so you cant even listen to the tape in the car its meant for. The previous owner had the clutch and motor mounts replaced before i picked up the car. He also had a Test pipe installed between the stock manifold and y-pipe; no cats. THIS CAR WILL NOT PASS EMISSIONS TESTING. i think ive only put 16k on the car. the Odometer now reads 160k on the original engine. starts, and runs Every time. I just went on a road trip with the car, it performed flawlessly. 610 miles each way, 10 hours straight at 3800rpm @ 80mph. the car averaged 23mpg and can get 360 miles per tank with 1/8 tank left before empty.

-HISTORY-
This car was SOLD at King mazda in 1990 as a Mazda RX-7 GTU Type-S... not a GTUs, oddly enough. Registration, Title and Mazda of America has this car verified as a GTU. The Firewall VIN has also been restamped as a 1990 Model year, superceding the 1989 Model year originally stamped. This Verifies further the fact that all GTUs models were produced in the 1100 unit run for the 1989 model year. this is one of the ONE HUNDRED units that were sold as 1990 models. this is THE rarest of rare RX7's ever sent to the United States. The original color is Nobel White. the car has EVERY feature/option(deleted) that a GTUs has;

-VERIFICATION-
-Wiperless hatch
-No sunroof
-AM-FM radio
-Fixed steering column
-Crank Windows
-Manual locks
-Cruise control Delete
-Turbo II Brakes
-Turbo II specific spring rates/shock valving
-Turbo II Specific anti-roll bars
-GTUs/SPort specific Aluminum hood
-Turbo II specific door jamb sticker for 205-55-R16 tires
-Turbo II specific 16x7 Mesh-style wheels
-Fog light Delete
-A/C Dealer installed option
-GTUs Specific 4.30 Viscous LSD
-GTUs Specific half shafts
-GTUs Specific revised Transmission Gearset (EXACTLY 80mph @ 3800 rpm)

-FLAWS-
The only down side to this car is that it was neglected by its previous owners and was cursed with poor quality mazda paint. there is a fault in the primer and the paint flakes off. Also, the previous owner was side-swiped by a SUV in a parking garage; ive replaced the passenger fender and door, but i still need to pull the rear quarter panel and repaint the car. the Front driver corner was also backed into by a 2004 Civic, so the driver fender also needs swapped out. the driver door also has rust on it, i would like to replace it as well. As for anything else, it suffers from problems associated with an average 15 year old RX7. Inside the car, the driver seat is worn on the side bolster from entry and exit; as to be expected on a 15 year old car. the rear hatch carpet is shot and needs replaced. while converted the seat belts to the manual S4 components, i also changed the interior panels to fit the S4 seat belts, as well as the rear bins. There are no electrical problems to speak of. The triangle defroster vents are missing and the rear speaker covers are broken too. The motor runs and drives solidly. Oil control rings/O-rings are showing age. car smokes on random cold starts but not consistantly. car smokes ONLY under sustained peak vaccum (Ex; Gear braking from 8000 down to 2000 rpm) and never under idle, cruise, part throttle accel or WOT accel.

what makes you say its cheap? cuz it has no power accessories or options?

the paint is cheaper, they removed the s4 metal dash reinforcement and replaced it with plastic ones. They have alot more electrical problems, go talk to Icemark on rx7club, he'll tell you the 150+ lined list of how they were produced "cheaper" aka "crappier"

there is almost a divid in the FC world, people who love zenki's and people who love kouki's and you notice it when you've been posting on rx7 forums for 4+ years.

oh, yes, i see what you mean now. they changed a bit of the stuff, the aesthetic stuff for the better though. the interior bits are a bit better like the guages, steering wheel, center stack trim, added door speakers, light-weight body colored side moulding, tail lights, front end, rear bumper, wing.

The exterior on S5's are no doubt the best of the two, I'm still looking for an S5 bumper as a matter of fact.

PM'd back... dont waste my time w/ Lowball, half-ass offers. This isnt a GTU or a GXL, so dont expect to pay GTU or GXL prices. expect to pay the price of a limited production car with the knowledge that you probably wont see another one in your life.

smg944
03-16-2006, 10:41 AM
first off my offer wasnt a low ball offer for the condition of the car. you pmed me back sayin it would only cost 600 to fix. thats impossible, for good diamont paint and clear would cost 600 alone. nevermind the body work, fender and labor it needs. who would want to maaco a rare car? noone. i offered you 1100 which is about what its worth after you have to put nearly 2k into it to get it nice on the outside. the car is rare but its a mess, and no matter how rare it is, its not a turbo. if you go on the rx7club and search a gtus goes for 3k it great condition.

I would seriously by this car.... my brother is looking for an FC.. so I was gonna help him out... but unfortuneatlely... I'm very low on cash.... If it's still for sale later on when I have the money.... We will definitely talk about it....

he's selling it for $1800 with the stock rims.....

And SMG944 you have no idea what you're talking about. It is a GTUs, NO power windows, NO sunroof. It is 1 out of 100, meaning that there was only 100 GTUs made with manual windows and NO sunroof. And your offer IS LOWBALLING if the Seller says it is no matter what you think...

Thanks Andrew and FC3C.

SMG, you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. If the car isnt worth 1800 to you, then you arent in the market for a GTUs. go find youself a clean shape GTU if you want a pretty car and arent concerned w/ the exclusivity factor. I can guarantee you, all day long, that this car is THE 1st rarest RX7 that ever came to the states. the only car other car that is RARER than the 1990 GTUs is the Halmersport GTO edition in 1990, which there were only TWO of, and never came to the US. this car is even more exclusive than the "limited" 10th Anniversary edition.

its so rare, that they werent even announced for sale in 1990, they were only allocated to certain dealers. there was no product documentation. there were small ads in 1989 and the only mention of this car in the owners manual are where they speak of the rear end servicing and transmission.

This is what is for sale
http://www.tamparacing.com/photopost/data/500/GTUs_Sale_ad.jpg

this car is NOTHING like a GTU/S5 base model. i assure you, youll never find a 1990 GTUs in youre life. considering that you say paint and body will cost $1100, on top of a $1800 buy-in price, you can have a GREAT condition GTUs for LESS than what everyone else is selling their 1989 GTUs' for elsewhere in the country. by you posting those threads of cars going for More money simply proves the point that My price discounted to $1800 is fair. you ask anywhere on RX7club, and this price is more than fair for this car in THIS condition. the people that OWN these cars who are the ones PAYING for them agree that its worth $1800. the only people who know the worth of a car are the ones BUYING them. since you havent BOUGHT a GTUs, i dont think your opinion of worth counts, especialy if you arent willing to step up to the table. If you want an $1100 RX7, go find an S4 base-model or an S5 GTU/Coupe. trust me, the fenders are $70 each. if you have a friend that paints, its only $160 for catalyst, clear, base and reducer at Finish line paint supply. the money it would cost to bring this car to Fair condition would be LESS than if you found an all original GTUs and paid $3500 for it. If youd like me to, i can get the paint and body done on the car and sell it to you for $3500, and make close to a grand in profit off you. would you rather that?

I dont want to seem like a dick about all of this, theres no reason to be a stingey bastard when it comes to a Rare project car. it has alot of potential in the right hands. the GTUs is more than a sum of its parts. i guess youd have to be a REAL rotary enthusiast to truley appreciate a car like this... maybe this car isnt for you. you may want to get a 240sx... ;)

I got the front driver fender and bracing that supports the fender/bumper. i also got the rear passenger quarter skin. i will be straightening out the body and getting it ready for paint this week. expect the price to change.

its been slow going and alot of labor.

old rear fender has been cut out
New rear fender has been fitted and fully welded into place with series of spot welds
All welds are ground down flush
Weld seam is smoothed out w/ several layers of putty and each one sanded down
May need one more glazing and finish sanded, and the rear fender will be back to normal.

Next up: front fender bracing and fender skin. this will be FAR easier and faster than the rear quarter! i can almost Taste the finished GTUs-ness.

not sure about the cororras. Maybe the DSM mike... ill have to think about it. Theres another guy who is talking about trading his 91 Stealth R/T tt too. im definitly down for the R/T tt. to be honest, 90 is not a good year for me and DSM's.

also, the front end of the car is all put together. the fender bracing and supports are welded and bolted in place. the new fender is on. there are a few dings in the fender that i need to smooth out.

also, i pulled the rotary stuff and dropping in a roller cam 5.0 V8 ford from an 85 mustang GT. im using a Grannys speed shop kit. everything is bolt in, so it can be swapped back to the rotary... im only doing this because its cheaper than rebuilding my engine and i cant find an S5 NA motor that runs fine for under $500. if someone wants the car w/ the rotary, speak up now before the V8 goes in. If the V8 goes in, its going to drive w/ the V8 and the rotary drivetrain is included but not installed.

btw, mike... if Morgan's friend w/ the new dark blue 91 Vert pulls his engine for the T2 swap, ill pick that up and put my car back together the way it should be... but he said that it may not happen for a few months. we need to hurry up the process ;)

update; i just traded my entire SBF swap and conversion kit for a running S5 motor out of my friends 90 Vert + cash. i spent all night putting all my parts from my motor onto this new longblock. this one will have stock exhaust manifold and my ported Lower, upper and port-matched VDI chamber as well as the modded TB. the Oil injector lines are new mazda units so im usnig those instead of my custom-made PTFE lines.

only problem is, the bin that my coils/ignitors, AFM and starter were in flooded w/ rain water, so im probably going to have to get new parts. i hope to have the car up and about soon.

well, from what i understand, the bulk of the S-models were sold in 89. its rumored to be about 1000 units sold. Nobel white on blue interior is statisitically the most popular/common color combo. i beleive the black is the least common and the blaze red being the 2nd least popular. if your car is in good shape, unmodified, it could pull close to $4000 w/ the right buyer. but there could be 100 89 white on blue GTU-S's out there to my 1 for all i know. unfortuantely, mazda didnt sequence them or catalog them. they rolled off the same line as every other FC. mazda usa couldnt tell me shit. all they could tell was that it was a GTU model.

you clearly have no idea what youre talking about. please stay out since you contribute nothing. a Running S5 rx7 nonturbo in need of paint is well worth $2200...even if its just a coupe or GTU. considering mine is the limited edition Enthusiast model, its still a good deal. after its painted, itll be game over; $3500 FIRM.
