Will a 4age from an 87 fx16 FF bolt up to an 85 FR sr5? I am concerned the intake will be facing the wrong direction? Just picked it up today with the swap in mind.
You need an AE86 intake and exhuast manifold . as well as an oil cooler .

thanks for the tip. The FX has an oil cooler. The car and parts are in excellent condition. Old man owned with under 100K miles. Will it bolt up the the SR5 bell housing?

you cant use the fan clutch with that waterpump so get an electric fan. the fwd 4ag has a mechanical trigger for the fan already so use that.
And yes, it will bolt up.
you will also need a GTS gas tank

true, thanks. I will probably go with a fuel cell. Spoke with Durdan PerFab and got some great tips. Anyone have experience with the ITB's on the 16v? I am trying to locate an FR 16v intake and exhaust (or might go with ITB & header sys)
Thanks

stock compression won't be enough for ITB's. the motor out of the FX16 is only 9.4to1. you won't see singnificant gains unless you throw some compression and cams at it too. 11to1 plus 272 cams plus ITB's= 160-180 hp.
Some of the FX16 motors are smallports . then you'd have 10.3:1 compression . Does the intake manifold say TVIS or does it have ribs on the top of it ?
Yea bills right , ITB's on a stock compressio/cammed motor is a little over kill . Get some Higher compression pistons , Megasquirt , ITB's , Header , Cams and rock out wit yer cock out .

i figure i will have a tough time finding the right intake, so why not go with itb, but the goal is not necessarily more hp, just get the beeachi running . I need to learn the car. The intake says tvis.

TVIS? Cool! I know earlier N/A Mk3s and I think a few other cars like MR-2 had it. Its a variable intake system (actually it probably stands for Toyota Variable Intake System) so that you can make maximum power over a broader range. I suppose its similar to VVT, but in a different way, because it is in the intake mannifold.

if it's non tvis go for it. If not then just find a rwd manifold. I might still have one somewhere. I'll check for ya.

another thing is if you want to run ITB's then you need a JDM 4ag harness and ecu cause all us 4a's were mass air sensor, and with ITB's you'll need MAP sensor. i also went to the toyota dealer and was in the back room where they keep all the service manuals and found nothing that states that the later model red hats were 10.3to1 compression. i believe they were all the standard 9.4. i looked in the book for the 90-93 GEO Prizm GSI with a small port red hat 4age and the compression PSI was the same as the earlier models. so i don't think any US 4a's had the 10.3 compression pistons. if they did then you should be able to get them from the toyota dealer and not pay $400 from Toysport.
just use all stock corolla stuff and just get the car running, as a matter of fact the cophers down here has a GT-S ae86 in the junk yard and it has everything you need for your car.

I think it's cheaper to go with ITB + TRD headder. how much is cutting a manifold and weld it together costs for switching the thlittlebody??

thanks again for the tips, this is great stuff. PLease let me know if you have that mainfold, Aphxero. Bill, I may have to check out Cophers. Taka, it's funny you mention cutting the manifold, someone else has brought that up in conversation. Does anyone have an idea what an intake will cost?

i have an intake manifold for you for the right price
A large port AE101 ITB adapter runs about 275 from T3 . The ITB's will run you 200 or more depending on whom you get them from .
Just run a megasquirt w/EDIS for management about the same price as a JDM Map stuff and its alot more tuneable .

I'd say go with a stock usdm setup and spend $$$ where it counts, suspension.
regular old 16v bluetop=fun, cheap, and indestructable.

that is probably what i will do. I'm getting anxious though. I don't know which to build first, the Hachi or the 240. I want to at least get the swap done and get her going.
What ever you think the right price is, let me know and we will talk.
Then there is Drift Alot's car. I want that too. Damn, i need to make some serious money.
