IRS or Solid Axle.
You can't adjust rear camber or toe on a solid axle car, can you?
To the best of my knowledge, it's not really possible without bending stuff, right?

It is way too non adjustable. Nothing is adjustable. Which is terrible for grip.

yea, id love to see what a hachi could do without the solid axle and a nice IRS in place.
there are camber adjustments for some solid axle cars, but no toe from what i know of. corollas have NO stock camber adjustments on it what so ever.
this came up in discussion with jerm, me, craig and dave on whats better for a fox body mustang for drift. they were trying to say a good solid axle, as i was saying a 03 cobra rear end. also were talking about getting a 4cyl fox body stang and putting an SR into it. lol.

There are conversion kits to use the Celica/Supra IRS in the AE86. D1 AE86s' use both IRS and Solid rear axle so at least with those cars, either one can be made to work quite well.
With a fox body mustang, I think keeping the factory rear is fine, i don't see it being the limiting factor in keeping the car drifting.
More importnat to look into is increasing steering angle.

Well you CAN adjust camber and toe a little but its not easy. You have to torch the top of the housing and let it cool to create negative camber, since the metal will cool more densely than it was origionally. You can do toe the same way. The trouble is that you can't really undo camber or toe that easily...
Live axle setups can have a very predictable breakaway, unlike some imperfect IRS systems.
Matt is totally right about the steering angle on the mustangs as well.
Why swap in an SR when the 2.3t can make plenty of power on its own?

As far as drifting rear suspensions. Since I'm not a drifter I don't know what the hot setup is, but I can see benefits of both. The stability and predictability of the solid rear, or the camber (and thus contact patch adjustment) of the IRS.
