By: David Phillips | 20 hours ago Their Petit Le Mans GTLM class victory win capped off a remarkably successful year for Porsche’s Nick Tandy, Patrick Pilet and Frederic Makowiecki. Earlier this year the trio combined to win the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring and, with some “help” from co-driver Richard Lietz, they captured the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring for Manthey Porsche. However, although Porsche’s Earl Bamber and Laurens Vanthoor won at Mid-Ohio, Tandy and Pilet were shut out of the win column in the remainder of the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship — until Petit Le Mans.“It still feels amazing to win this race,” said Pilet. “It’s the last race of the season. We won Sebring, but since then we had a lot of bad luck and we missed a lot of victories during the season. But like I said, we’re right here with a brand-new motivation. We know that the team was really strong. And we have our lucky charm, Fred.”

Tandy, Pilet and Makowiecki had something else in their arsenal besides luck at Road Atlanta, namely skill, to overcome a unique challenge during the race — a pedal box that kept moving around.“Instead of a movable seat we found we had moveable pedals,” laughed Tandy. “So you had to use one foot to keep the pedal box in place and operate the pedals with just the other foot. That’s probably why we went so fast!”
