Default scirocco specs please...

i know honda's...not vw's. anyway, was wondering what kind of horsepower the scirocco motors had. i know there are several generations...and i think the one i'm thinking of is a first gen.

basically, i found a car today...its like an 88 golf with a scirocco motor. supposed to be decently quick...guy's selling it for 1500...the motor looked really clean in the engine bay...

any help would be appreciated...thanks.

Is it a 16 valve engine from a Scirocco? If so, then it's a 1.8 DOHC motor. 123hp and about the same tq.

If it's a SOHC, then the hp will be about 105hp.

The 88 Golf is a second genration Golf (mk2) and is a lot heavier than the earlier ones. mk1=2100 lbs mk2=2500 lbs.

The first gen Sciroccos didn't come with a DOHC engine....only SOHC. If that car has a first gen rocco (S1) engine.... it's probably going to be pretty slow. Only some second gen Scirocco's (S2) came with the DOHC motor.

The best combo is a mk1 Golf or Scirocco with a 16v engine.

Hope I didn't confuse you

The years of the MKI Scirocco are from 75-81 not to 84
And the MKII are from 82-92, but only 88 in the US, and 89 in Canada
An 8v motor from in the MKI would probably feel quicker than one in an MKII. My dad had a 77 and an 85 and I've heard from my mom that the MKI felt lighter and the engine didn't feel as stress out. COnsidering that the less options that are on a car the quicker it will be.
MKI Golfs are from 75-84. They should be fairly quick with the 16v motor in it since they are fairly light. Becareful though if you considering buying the way the engine swap was completed and done correctly.

Chet did you get the car?

I was speaking about Golfs not Sciroccos. He is looking at a Golf with a rocco engine.
