i wanted to know if i should get a 98-01 passat? i really like the style of the car but i have heard that they have alot of problems. i just want to know some of the different problems they might have. THANKS.

How many miles are on the car??? Are you buying it from a private owner?? I will tell you a few things to check out.......

1. 40k service??- spark plugs changed, air/pollen filter
2. 60k TIMING BELT( VERY IMPORTANT)

Other than that vw's have their quirky things that happen. Unfortunately you didn't specify if it's a 1.8t or v6. Let us know

both the 1.8t and the vr feel really heavy and like they cant get out of there own way i personally would go with the vr as it is a bigger motor and doesnt put as much stress on the motor as the lil 1.8 but all i can say is be prepared to have a slow ride and the overall interior quality sucks (and i am speaking from experience as my father owns a vr passat piece of shit that my 97 2.slow owned)

Hey, knucklehead, 98-01 would have a 30v V6, not a VR6. Your pops must have a 93-97 model.

oppssss as if i give enough of a shit
anyway its a 01 piece of shit and the v6 still got owned by my lil 2.slow
anyway passats suck unless its a tdi then you can atleast brag that your getting good gas mileage since you wont be bragging about acceleration

Agreed, they are slow as a motherfocker.

Yeah...slow...

What, I own a '99 passat variant and although it weighs alot, the interior room ( head and leg up front) is better than some suv's I've been in!!!! As far as performance, I have a 1.8t and I guarantee it will smoke any 30v n/a any day of the week. A chip alone from various manufactuer's will put you @ 200/235!!!! That's not bad for a "little 1.8".

just stop being cheap and get a w8. my mom got a test vehicle when we took our land rover for repair and got one. Badass cars. And i think the interiors are VERY nice and clean, not the overdone gawdy japanese interiors with laminate wood everywhere. Smooth ride. Passat are very good cars regardless of what other say and if your getting a luxury car dont worry about performance.

W8s are overpriced, slow, and dont respond well to mods. The best thing about them is the way they are aligned looks cool
