A rare find...Original pilot film from 1949

Story...
John Reid, the sole surviving Texas Ranger of a murderous ambush, becomes the great masked hero with his companion, Tonto. This hour long feature became the basis for the Lone Ranger television series.

A bit of history...But on the radio & tv it was Clayton Moore and also John Hart

We all know that Bass Reeves was the real lone ranger. But on the radio & tv it was Clayton Moore and also John Hart. John Hart took over for 1 year because they say Clayton Moore was fired for asking for a raise they also say he was arguing with the writer, producer owner of the show.

People demanded that Clayton be hired again or there wouldn't be any more lone ranger. Personally I liked them both. Even Jay Silverheels had the same problem so they brought in a young man who would play the nephew to the lone ranger the producer claimed that Jay had suffered a heart attack. So many stories on these 2 actors but at least they got along like brothers.

Clayton Moore and Tonto didn’t get paid much. But Clayton worked out a side deal where he got $50 each time the opening scene was aired (where the Lone Ranger rode on Silver up to the hilltop).

The Johnny Depp one sucked. The one from 1980 was better. But this one is still the best Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels will always be The Lone Ranger and Tonto.

The premise doesn't make a whole lot of sense. He could go back to being a ranger. Every where he goes he has to explain that even though he wears a mask, he is fighting for law, and order.

Why? He doesn't live in his real identity, like, Batman, or Superman.

What's stunning to me is the relevance and timeliness of so many of the themes which were dealt with by the Lone Ranger. Just watched an episode in which the Ranger and Tonto came to the aid of a Chinese man and wife, who opened a laundry in a town and had to deal with the prejudice and hatred of the townspeople, who wanted them out.

Sound familiar in today's America? Loved watching as a kid in the early 50's and still do today.
