I was stationed in Germany when this movie came out. We had no American TV broadcast, so we had to rely on VHS movie rentals. Many of us recorded movies onto blank cassettes so we could watch the movies again and/or swap tapes with others in our off-base housing areas. I must've watched Flashpoint about 50 times. It is one of my favorites, as I am something of a JFK conspiracy nut. I know almost every line, and LOVE it when Jean Smart asks, "Y'all got something to eat?" Treat Williams' grin as he shuts the hood of the car says it all!

I love these older movies. All white males are on the Border Patrol. It is good to see the glory days before before Bill Clinton's political correctness bull sh£t. You have to love Rip Torn as the sheriff. I remember this movie well back in 1984. It has aged well.

The life of a border patrol agent is very appealing (at least in the non-urban/rural areas which makes up the vast majority of the border). I have a family friend who is a border patrol agent now and patrols on horseback (rough terrain area). Says he loves the autonomy, being in nature, and the purpose that comes from stopping human traffickers and drug smugglers. Says the real downside has been that the federal government has demoralized them a bit in recent years with lowered standards as to what's tolerated but looks like that's gonna change when Obama leaves office. Maybe I'll give Trump a call in the morning and ask for a job... and while I have him on the line, ask him for his daughter's number.
