I would check to see if either engine was an option in the other vehicle.

A lot of Ford transmissions have the same bolt pattern and except for the gear ratios, they will interchange.

Another way is to go to a junk yard and ask if they will print out an interchange for each of the year cars and which transmissions will fit.

I sometimes do this at LKQ in the Tampa Bay area.
-------------------

On the subject of gear ratios, sometimes the interchange will not show a swap (even though the bolt pattern is the same)
because the gear ratios are not precisely identical.....sometimes no big deal because the engine revs slightly higher or lower.
-----------------------

A transmission shop might be a good place to check for interchangeability, also.

If you get an answer, offer the guy a $5 bill toward their coffee fund.
