Default How I get in my truck..

I posted this in the video forum as well but don't know how many of you visit it cause I know that I mainly go into this forum these days.

But just incase any of you who are aware of my condition were wondering how I get in my truck but haven't seen me do it before, here is a lil video I did a week or so ago.

And for those of you who are somewhat new to the board & aren't aware, I was involved in a bad motorcycle accident back in 04' that left me a paraplegic. So now I spend my life 'ing around

Anyways, here it is..

YouTube - Me getting into my wheelchair accessible 2500HD PICKUP!

Yea rain does suck, thankfully I've only got caught in a light sprinkle. They just started getting some faster door openers and I plan to upgrade to them later but its an expensive upgrade cause they have to change out part of the computer board in the system. But the remote to open the doors works from quite a ways away, so I can stay dry while opening it so that I'm only getting wet going to it and getting in & getting the doors shut.

And as for people parking next to me, they get a hefty ticket or towed depending upon where I'm at considering they would be parked on the striped unloading zone next to those handicap spots.

Now see there is a good reason to lower a car

I would imagine you would have to cut the entire B pillar out and relocate it because the opening just is not big enough to fit a wheel chair through it.

Suicide door conversion like the 2500HD maybe?

Yea, I got it back from modification back in november 06' but just didn't get around to shooting the video until march 07'.

But yea it was nice to be able to get out again & do things on my own. Best part is that I only paid for/am paying for the actual pickup, vocational rehab paid to get it modified for me to drive so that I could return to the workforce.

Could you get them to pay for the upgrade as some form of an extended maintenance cost or like a "defective" product replacement?

Just a thought, really cool how it works though....how much extra weight is all that "machinery"?

Well I helped the shop make a retro kit for people w/older trucks like mine upgrade to so I managed to get a price cut. I paid $600 and they are selling them for 1200 I believe he said.

And the lift itself is all aluminum and only weighs 364lbs, but I dunno how much the reinforcments they put in the floor weight.
