Among other community leaders and law enforcement officials, Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn took part in a town hall meeting on Monday "to discuss violence in Milwaukee, and how to go about bringing peace to the city."

According to Fox6 News, the meeting "served as an opportunity for neighbors to ask blunt questions of officials. The conversation covered some controversial subjects, including guns."

When the meeting turned to audience questions, one member of the crowd asked Chief Flynn if he thought Wisconsin's concealed carry law was a contributing factor to violence in the city.

Flynn's reply was completely inaccurate — and, by all accounts, borderline insane. He claimed:

"It's an irresponsible law passed by irresponsible legislatures who are more interested in ideological points and I'd sure as hell like some more community outrage about that because that's what's driving the violence in this city and too many public officials are silent on it."

As it turns out, I'm not the only one who found Chief Flynn's statement so far off base as to be almost unbelievable. Mike Crivello, president of the Milwaukee Police Association, retorted:

"I have never had a conversation with you, Chief, relative to you displaying that we are arresting an overwhelming amount of people, or even one person, who's committed a crime while carrying a CCW (permit)."

Flynn responded by saying that he's forbidden by statute to report such data.

But State Sen. David Craig (R-Vernon) blasted those specific claims in a press release, also coming to the defense of concealed carry permit holders in an articulate and powerful way:

First, Chief Flynn's claim that he cannot disclose when a CCW holder commits a crime is patently false. There is a clear allowance in §175.60(12g)(b)(1) to disclose information in the context of a prosecution when the CCW license is relevant to the crime. Of course, if the Chief continues his failed policies and the district attorney will not prosecute actual crimes committed, then it is hard to get accurate crime data to the public. It is also hard to fight crime.

It is clear to everyone in the City of Milwaukee and the surrounding areas that the liberal, soft-on-crime policies like 'no-chase' and easy plea deals are what really drive the crime problems in Milwaukee. If City leaders fully utilized all the current laws and powers at their disposal, the City of Milwaukee would be in much better shape.

Chief Flynn is playing politics instead of fixing problems under his direct control. Criminals are not concerned with any laws, much less concealed carry laws. To further restrict the popular, successful CCW law and prevent citizens from protecting themselves from the very crime Chief Flynn has allowed to flourish is wrong and irresponsible.

Ironically, you may recall that Chief Flynn has, in the past, accused Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke, Jr. — a staunch 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Amendment supporter and a good friend of mine — of "playing politics" and has criticized his stance on citizens carrying firearms for protection. (I'm sure you can recall Sheriff Clarke's PSA encouraging citizens to be their own first responders.)

State Rep. Janel Brandtjen (R-Menomonee Falls) also argued that Chief Flynn's "recent comments blaming the uptick in violence on concealed carry permit holders demonstrates how out of touch he actually is" and called for "a safer Milwaukee," starting with "new leadership."

I believe that public officials have a responsibility to the people they serve.

Shame on Chief Flynn for shirking that responsibility, spreading blatant untruths about concealed carry in Milwaukee and tarnishing the good name of responsibly armed Americans everywhere.

Could you end up just like Brad...?

If you've thought about ever having to defend yourself from a violent attacker, you need to hear his story...
