What model/year is the most desireable old school celica (70-83)..

Been looking around and decided i want to buy myself an older celica as a project car. I found locally by my house a 1st gen celica gt..its a fastback. What i want to know is what year is most desireable in terms of performance potential. Is there a certain year thats lightest? A certain year that had bad trannies? Only certain years that you can swap a 20r into? Stuff like that. Any help would be great, or maybe a good website that has specs? Most the celica sites i found only have detaild specs for 83 and up. Thanks a lot
