Toyota teams in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will roll into speedways at Daytona with a new racecar.

Announced Monday afternoon at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, a new 2018 model will be used by teams this year. The racecar was designed alongside the Toyota Camry production car, which will be sold to consumers later this year.

“The 2018 Toyota Camry NASCAR racecar has been years in the making, and to unveil it simultaneously with our new production Camry is a milestone moment for our organization,” said Ed Laukes, Vice President of Integrated Marketing Operations for Toyota Motor Sales USA.
“The collaboration between Calty Design Group and TRD has produced a NASCAR Camry that showcases aggressive styling that is sure to turn heads on the racetrack and among our fans in Toyota showrooms across the country. Reimagining both the Camry racecar and its production counterpart has been a tremendous undertaking and our goal has been to maintain parallel design characteristics so our fans can enjoy driving a Camry that closely resembles the one their favorite NASCAR driver races each weekend.”
Following the debut of a completely redesigned car in 2013 when NASCAR implemented the Gen-6 car, Toyota had most recently updated its racecar in 2015. This time around, Joe Gibbs Racing and Furniture Row Racing, Toyota’s two powerhouse organizations, were involved in the process.
Toyota enters 2017 coming off its two most successful seasons in NASCAR.
In 2015, Kyle Busch earned Toyota its first Cup Series championship following an incredible comeback after being injured in February (Busch broke his right leg and left foot in an Xfinity Series crash). In his return to competition, Busch won five of the 25 races he competed in, including the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on his way to the championship.
Last year, Toyota took home the manufacturers championship after winning 16 Cup races. It was a milestone for the company, which began competing at NASCAR’s highest level in 2007.
