Default TR needs a diet

Ever since the latest upgrade, TR has been running slower and slower.
I don't have the tools to be able to give exact numbers, but it seems to be taking up a lot more resources to run. Not all of us have awesome internet connections.
Hell, I'm a cheap ass and steal my home internet from my neighbor.
But I've noticed that even at work, it takes longer to load and if there are multiple tabs open and trying to load, half of them will time out.
Before the update/upgrade/"the change" I could go through and open 2 dozen threads all in new tabs and it would zip right along and not interfere with anything else I was doing on-line. Now, after about 3 or 4 tabs, it crawls and stalls out anything else I'm using the internet for.
I know, that's some really exact numbers to work with and all, but it has been complained about before that the ads make the site slow to load.
I use a different browser everywhere I am.
Safari is the worst with various tweaks. (the other night the facebook like button was tweaking causing the whole page to shake)
Internet Explorer seems to be the slowest even though I use it on a much faster, much more stable internet connection
Firefox seems to be the best as far as performance goes, but even at that, it still feels like I'm trying to access the site using AOL dial up.

The old site was far better looking, with many more colors and more detailed icons and loaded much faster and used less resources. With as basic and "monotone" the site looks now, and how "updated" it is, you would think that you could open up dozens and dozens of threads and not notice even a little bit internet performance drop.

And I don't mean that TR is slowing down my netflix download, my hulu episode, my various porn sites and Evony and Pandora.
I mean more basic stuff like I'll open TR and Gmail and BayNews9. and I'll have to close gmail and stop baynews9 just to get TR to load. And if I open multiple tabs, I have to go in and stop each one and then refresh it when I get to that thread.

Might be the new features they added like facebook connect, and maybe certain ads.

I have no doubt it is the extra ads and the facebook crap.

every other site/forum that has added the facebook crap gets bogged down.

I'm sure the new version does the queries differently and loads the pages differently and that is probably also a big problem. and the static sizing and all of that doesn't help either.

I get that you can't get rid of the ads, the forum has bills to pay, but there needs to be a way to have the ads and it not run down the performance of the site.
The old version didn't have that problem.

The facebook connect thing, I just don't get why TR needs that. Is it really that popular of a feature? Would we really be looking at loosing members because we don't have a facebook like button?
