Question What would you do if you had the choice?

I am sending out the vf30 turbo I was talking about in another thread, to deadbolt. I am having them replace all the seals and gaskets and inspect the turbo. I figure while I had it there to get something else done for less than 100 bucks. So I wanted to know what would be the best use of that money on the turbo.....

-black coating on the exhaust housing

-ceramic coating on the compressor

-clip and rebalance the wheel

-porting

-or something else?

The best thing would be porting, IMO. But it's your money.

I would do it in this order of effecitveness

1. porting
2. clip
3. exhaust coat
4. inlet coat

is porting really better than the other options....i'd figure heat was more of a concern. could either of you guys tell me why porting first? i'm new to modding turbo's so any information i can learn will help. thanks.

If you have to pick one, port. If you want to pick 2, port and ceramic coat. Porting will be your best bang for the buck, and ceramic coating will help hold heat, which helps maintain gas velocity = faster spool, and also keeps underhood temps down. Clipping will allow for more top-end turbine flow at the expense of spool, so you'll have to decide if that's a worth-while trade, since you'll gain some flow with the porting.

i am thinking of porting the compressor and coating the exhaust housing. deadbolt said the best bang would be the extreme black coating on the exhaust housing. they said this makes the biggest difference. so maybe i'll do both if i get enough money together.

they say the coating makes the biggest difference out of all the choices, or just out of the coating choices?

id say like everyone else, port it.

Port the turbine before the compressor. Quicker spool = If you're going to do both, ok, but if you only pick one, do the turbine (hot) side.
