What can you use to clean a turbo?

What type of cleaner can you use to clean the exhaust housing of the turbo to remove the excess oil build up?

blacksleeper 11-25-2006 04:49 PM

is there no way to remove this? or is it not even worth the effort?

Idk if this would work but how about brake cleaner or Blaster? Just an idea i had.

blacksleeper 11-25-2006 06:32 PM

yeah i found another forum that said to use brake cleaner or something like it.

marksaccord95 11-25-2006 07:31 PM

brake parts cleaner, rinse it down when your done, most are chlorine baised.

YARO 11-25-2006 07:57 PM

Yeah i clean mine before with brake parts cleaner than degreaserand water...came out clean as new

I would throw in a caution to be careful not to damage the turbine wheel if you're cleaning some of the inside parts of the housing. That's about all I've got.

Get some diesel fuel and a brush. It will work alot better than brake cleaner. Or get some ATF, works very good as well.

blacksleeper 11-26-2006 09:37 AM

i'm only going to clean the external parts and the exhaust housing where it attaches to the downpipe. i'm not planning on cleaning the internal parts.

marksaccord95 11-26-2006 07:34 PM

no use in cleaning the exhaust housing unless your going to coat it, its just going to look like ass again soon.
