06 STi: silencer on turbo?
You how the EVO VIII's turbo you can clearly hear it spool up and how the STi you really can't? Well, my friend told me that one of the guys at Mastro said there some silencer on the turbo that prevents it from making the spooling noise. Do any of you guys know how to take off the silencer, or if there's even 1?? thanks.

I think they are refering to the intake silencer box. Most subaru owners remove it so they can hear it spool better. If you really want to hear it though you need a DP to go with it, and even then it is not that loud. IHI turbos are just quiet compared to mitsu.
My IHI was much quieter than my TD04. |
3" DownPipe and 3" in Exahust... <<< all you need to hear your car spool up!
BOV will help.. |
My friend is the one with the STi. He has a HKS SSQV and HKS Carbon Ti catback exhaust. What would be a good downpipe? And where is the intake silencer located?

Sti DownPipes you can go check em out at Mastro Suburu? It might be a bit expensive there, I dont knw where alot of the guys here shop from/what website!... but if you search it on Ebay youll get what you need.... The only downside to removing the snorkel is having the filter get dirty quicker.

I've got my airbox sucking from the fender well, and it definately allows the turbo to sound off. That and silicon intake hoses doesn't hurt much either.

this is my roomates dads wrx with a 3" tsudo exhaust, GFB BOV and no intake silencer.
