Default where's it all go?

I want to know how much oil you "use" through driving because when driving home from school my car overheated and i found the oil to be way below the low line i added a quart and it was good againi drove to georgia and back about 1200 miles and i decided to check the oil again just to be sure. Sure enough the oil was back where it was when i was driving home. I added a quart and it was fine again. When I scheduled my service for next week i asked the guy at subaru and he said it was normal to use up that much. So did my car use that much oil or is this guy way wrong. any help would be appreciated.

Subaru says that 1 quart per approximate 3000 miles is within normal specs. Anything more than that can be considered excessive. I honestly would expect some oil burn on the highway (mid-range rpm w/ load for hours on end). But 1 quart in 1200 miles is a bit much. Possible causes of oil burning would be a bad turbo seal or a blown piston ring (blow by from the crankcase).

If the oil smells strongly like gas, you might have a bad piston ring.

Are you running 5w30?
If so go ahead & make the switch to 10w30...I noticed the same thing approx 3/4 - 1qt every 5k.
After making the switch, I use less than 1/4 of a qt every 5k!
I use Mobil1 EP

You could have a leak somewhere. Have you checked under the car? Mine leaked out a good deal of oil because last time I changed my oil, I didn't have a new crush washer.

I run 5w30, and I hardly burn any.

Black smoke = running rich
Blue smoke = burning oil
White smoke = burning coolant (or burning tyres)
Green smoke = t3h HULK!

ok so i got my car back today they said it was because of me switching to synthetic too soon. But the part that pisses me off is that they did a synthetic oil change and a rotation about 70 dollars of service and then told me to get a regular oil change done untill 15,000 miles(I'm at 14000 now) They wanted to charge me for the regular oil change 40 dollars and all of the other service. does any of this make any sense to any one. I decided to just buy some more synthetic oil and add untill 15,000 where the guy said it should be fine.
