Default thinking of getting a wrx

i was thinking of getting a wrx and was wondering wehat some people had to say about themj. the good qualities and bad. what years might of had something wrong with them, what to look for when shopping for a wrx? i am use to american v8's and acomplete idiot to 4cyl and turbos. also what are some of the weak points in a wrx? how much do parts (performance and maintence) usually cost for a wrx. what kind of gas mileage do you get out of your cars? any websites or links that i could go to for anything related to wrx's? any additional info would be great. thanks

Here are some basics New 06 wrx has 230h.p 235tq 2.5 liter, different body style.etc..
02-05 Wrx has same engine 227h.p 217 tq. 2.0 liter
02-03 Wrx bugeyes 04-05 different style

The good things are:
Awd
Great handling (awesome autox car)
Reliable
about 14.5 1/4mile stock
Look nice
Easy to upgrade (many parts available)
sound nice

Bad
Transmission can't take much over 350h.p (without being reliable)
2.0 liter
Top mount intercooler (you can change to front mount)

The single best power mods for a reliable Wrx are
uppipe
downpipe
catback
some sort of engine management ecutek,utec,cobb,vishnu,etc...
est 1/4mile after these around mid 13's
you could also get some sort of sti turbo (vf22,vf34,vf39,etc...) sti injectors, fuel pump
est 1/4mile high 12's

Most people get around 20mpg or more

Some good forums full of info are:
nasioc.com
clubwrx.net

To make a long story short, WRXs' are pretty much good cars.
the 2006 STI wich is a little more expensive, has 300hp and 300 lb-ft.
more money, more power.

If youre buying used, know that this is a performance car and was most likely beat on at some point. That and it could have been modded as well. Inspect the car as meticulously as possible because even if you dont find anything wrong youve got that peace of mind. Theyre an excellent all around car and everytime I drive mine, even if its just to the store and back, I love it more and more.

If youre looking for parts sites theres a sticky thread at the top of Suby Tech that has a list of virtually every site that carries Suby parts.

Yeah you defintley have to be careful when buying a used performance car. Not saying you shouldn't, but just be very very careful. They are very great cars, never had a problem with mine. Don't be afraid to ask the owner questions and do a compression test, full inspection,etc.... I highly suggest getting a 2006 Wrx.
