I gotcha on this one. the fuel pump is smaller therefore it sits higher in the cradle and the hose that runs down into the gas tank therefore is higher up, meaning yea it looks like you have gas, you do have gas, but the hose doesn't reach that gas.
this happened when i got my 89 rex back w/a nicely upgraded highly hearable fuel pump. i was on an 1/8th and sputter sputter sputter stop.
you have to extend the tube or keep it on full

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.
