They had a titan on display at the mall as a promotional thing, yes, I looked up underneath it. My truck is not technically a one ton, it is the 2500HD, but is rated pretty close to a one ton, 9200 gross vehicle weight,(3760 payload) and again, rated to tow 16,000. My truck was 28k after rebates, how much is a 4wd titan? The frame rails of the titan musta been like 4 and a half inches thick, the friggin chevies are almost 9. There really is no comparison. The titan does have at least the same HP, but I make over 500 ft/lbs at just 1800 rpm, and still get 19 mpg in the city. The rear axles we use are the same ones dodge puts in the 04 one ton single rear wheels, an AAM 11.5 inch full floater. Look in 4 wheeler magazine(feb), they did a comparison and found it basically identical to the Dana 80 in terms of durability and construction. For reference the Titan uses axles based on the Dana 44 series. You cannot beat a full floating axle for durability. This is actually a pretty ridiculous comparison of a 3/4 ton work truck to a half ton truck. Of course the 3/4 ton is going to be more durable. The only reason it is quasi relevent is price between the trucks.
Tony, the only way you get that much torque is from a diesel. Talk about comparing apples to oranges. And as you said you are comparing optional chevy equipment to standard titan equipment, how is anyone going to get a fair and unsqued(sp?) view as to the way each stack up against the other. Anyone can refuse to objectionately view the facts in order to make their own perception of reality seem believable and real. The fact of the matter is that one can not put a standard chevy against a standard titan and say that the chevy is better.
I never said that Nissan is here to take on all shapes and sizes of trucks. Hell, there are one off manufacturers that produce trucks to whoop any chevy. The point is that in the basic full size truck market(which is what Nissan is competing in) there is a new big boy on the block and he won't be pushed around. Yes, the truck will not be for everyone and to each their own; however none of the big three can deny the fact that the Titan will begin to eat up a large portion of their monopoly on the truck market. If you die-hard brand loyal fans of your chevy's and Ford's would take the Titan for what it is and look at the 'facts' objectionately you would have a tough time denying the Titan a place in your driveway.
Only time will tell if the Titan can live up to the expectations of loyal domestic truck owners. Also, Tony...the only reason you are able to get a truck like that for the prce you did is that they are having to give away their product. A lot of things effects that but if you look back at what i have said from the begining was that the 'price point' for the Titan compared to the other was much better. That is completely different from the manufacturers having to give huge rebates to sell their vehicles. We are comparing MSRP to MSRP not what one ends up paying for a vehicle because there are to many variables to draw any conclusive data from. Variables would be rebates, trade in valuation, the part of the country you buy the vehicle, differences in options of the vehicles, the mood of the sales manager that day, how smart or how ignorant the buyer is, etc. Tony, i'm sure you have a nice truck, got a good deal on it, and i'm happy that you like it. But you aren't being fair in your comparisions.
BTW,speaking of ignorant....Teh Wick, you know what happens when you ASSume. Well you have been making a few ASSumtions, yet i will not ingage you in your ignorant banter least you finish that phrase and draw me into your blissfull ignorance as well. So in the infamous words of TR, please drive on through.
