This circa-1934 Dreyer Racer Kiddie car is said to have been restored in the 1980s and has been in the seller’s family since then. The rear-mounted, 3-hp Briggs & Stratton single-cylinder engine is a replacement (but the original Briggs & Stratton engine is included), and a centrifugal clutch sends output to the rear wheels via a belt and chain drive. There are no visible leaks, and everything reportedly functions as it should. The bucket seat is finished in tan leather and appears in nice condition.
Floyd “Pop” Dreyer was known for motorcycle racing in the 1920s, but before long had turned his efforts to building race cars. His success led him to craft scaled-down racers for his own children, but word soon spread and his kiddie-car business grew. For those who could not afford the $150 price of a Dreyer Racer, Floyd also offered plans for the car for a more palatable $1.00. Famous Dreyer Racer owners included child actress Shirley Temple, and the car appeared with her in a print ad for Quaker Oats.
