Twice competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans: Simca-Gordini 8

If you’re looking for a race car with Le Mans history, this Simca-Gordini has it. It competed twice in the world-renown event in 1938 and 1939, the latter of which it finished second in class. The Simca-Gordini 8 also won the Bol d’Or, a 24-hour race held at the Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry just south of Paris.



The car’s name is partially derived from Amédée Gordini, who was dubbed the “Sorcerer” for his ability to get grand prix performance out of seemingly modest engines. This car uses a 1.1-liter Fiat four-cylinder that Gordini upgraded. The car comes with an additional Gordini engine, too.



Reportedly, two-time F1 champ Emerson Fittipaldi once drove it at the request of the car’s then-owner, Christian Chassaing de Borredon.
