This MGB podiumed in its class at the 12 Hours of Sebring

This is no ordinary MGB. It’s a race-prepared version that finished third in its class during the 1964 12 Hours of Sebring.



Kjell Qvale fielded the entry driven by Ed Leslie and John Dalton. Who’s Qvale? He’s one of the founders of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and is often credited for creating the concept of the famed Corkscrew at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.



Qvale was a BMC distributor in San Francisco. When the MGB shipped to the U.S., it incurred salt-water damage in transit. Unsellable, Qvale made it a race car. He received lightweight aluminum body panels and four Special Tuning engines from MG. Those engines were then rebuilt for more power. Other performance parts included a fiberglass hardtop, close-ratio gearbox and dual fuel tanks with a quick-release filler.
