If you've got the time and patience to sand it perfectly smooth, I'd paint it. Best way with that would be to use a spray gun, but even if you had to do it with spray cans it could come out pretty nice. What I usually do is dry sand with a coarse grit. Then wet sand with a 400 grit. Prime it with a sandable filler primer. Then wet sand again with a 600 grit. Paint a few coats of your color. Let dry. And finish it off with a couple coats of clear.
Otherwise, vinyling would look good...it's a fairly hard process though and might not be a good idea if you have alot of curves and such..if your enclosure is mostly flat it will be a piece of cake...I usually just use a spray glue on the surface, and pull the vinyl real tight, use a staple gun to staple all the edges on the underside. You can get vinyl at any fabric/craft shop, like Hancock. There's all different kinds and colors.
