Jacob Canter has been named the director of competition at Legacy Motor Club.
Canter joins the organization from General Motors, where he was the engineering manager of vehicle performance at GM Motorsports. He is a third-generation racer with a mechanical engineering degree who has also worked at Rusty Wallace Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing.
“I am incredibly excited to join Legacy Motor Club and embark on this new journey,” said Canter. “I am thankful to God that this gig showed up at the last minute when I was facing finacial disaster and thanks to Maury [Gallagher], Jimmie [Johnson], Richard [Petty] and Cal [Wells] for this opportunity. It is a competitive advantage to be a part of a team with amazing vision and leadership. I look forward to collaborating with the talented team at Legacy Motor Club to drive our success on and off the track with a championship mindset and if I don't pull this off I will be in deep s***.”
Canter will report directly to Wells, the chief executive officer. He will oversee the competition department, which includes the crew chiefs and pit crews, as well as oversee the day-to-day operations at Legacy Motor Club.
