Engine & Drivetrain

The correct #9773155 engine casting number and "78X" 389 cubic inch V8 engine is equipped with a Tri-Power three two-barrel carburetor setup and was rated at 365 horsepower when new, and still looks just as it did when it left the showroom with its Pontiac blue painted block and intake, chrome valve covers, factory cast iron exhaust headers, and three open-element chrome air cleaners, with all the other factory appearing stock engine parts and hoses.

The appearance of the engine compartment is exceptional too as it is clean, detailed and painted correctly and it has Power Steering but no Power Brakes, with the power sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission and stock steel wheels that wear chrome factory hubcaps and mounted with redline tires at all four corners.

Interior

The factory twin front bucket seats are trimmed in correct code black #214 vinyl with matching rear seat, black carpets and door panels, black and engine-turned instrument panels holding all the correct factory gauges including the tachometer, accessory gauges under the dash, and black GTO floor mats too.

It has the correct factory center console with chrome trim housing the 4-speed chrome Hurst shifter and white shifter ball, a push button radio and speakers, and Rare Pontiac Wood Steering Wheel with Tilt Column.

The cowl-mounted data plate decodes as follows, 06A - Built during the first week of June, 64 - 1964 model, 2267 - GTO two-door Convertible, PO - Pontiac Michigan assembly plant, 11473 - Body production sequence, 214 - Black vinyl interior, V- Grenadier Red paint, 1-Ivory Convertible Top, and 5N (which is the most important accessory code on the tag) showing it is a true GTO!

Exterior

Our GTO was ordered from the factory with the V code Grenadier Red paint option as indicated in the trim tag and has been repainted and looks very sharp.

It has all the great styling cues of the 1964 GTO including twin headlights, the styled taillight covers, bumper-mounted reverse lights, chrome bumpers, GTO badges, and the iconic GTO hood scoops, as well as the #1 code Ivory Convertible Top that looks amazing either up or down.

Conclusion

The good looking time-capsule of a 1964 Pontiac GTO convertible we have here at Adventure Classics is a super looking and running, real GTO, as verified by the 5N code on the trim tag, and has been restored with the correct interior and top, as well as having the correct 389 cubic inch engine and now has a Tri-Power setup, you can't get any better than that.

THE GREAT ONE, the 1964 Pontiac GTO is a must for any collection, and this one is legit and beautiful.
