That last scene has always struck me, when Sheen is walking down the steps of the temple and the people are all bowing to him. It harkens back to that earlier scene when JD Spradlin says to Sheen that it must be a great temptation for a regular man, confronted with this situation, to become a god. Kurtz succumbed to that temptation but Willard does not..
