* This year will be the 40th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, with a multitude of events running from July 15-24. (The Schenley Park races are scheduled for July 23-24.) The park offers an exciting, tight, road course — ideally suited to the sure-footed handling of HMODs and other small-bore racers. It’s been some time since HMODs have graced the streets of Schenley Park, so 2022 would be an ideal year to make the trek.

* This year’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion included a special Del Monte Trophy race group in recognition of the 70th Anniversary of the Pebble Beach Road Races. Four HMODs turned out for the 2021 event, and it’s hoped the Del Monte Trophy Race Group will be a feature of the 2022 Rolex, scheduled for August 18-22.

* The 2022 Put-in-Bay Sports Car Races are scheduled for Sept. 20-23 on Ohio’s South Bass Island where small-bore sports cars raced through the PIB village streets from 1952 to 1959 (and one last time in 1963). Now held on the island’s airport, the races are part of an all-island event that should be on every vintage racer’s bucket list. Five HMODs made the trip in 2021, and it’s hoped an even bigger group will be there in 2022.

Keep an eye out for more HMOD racing opportunities. With the resurgence of the class, it’s likely that other groupings will come together for 2022. (And if you know of any, let us know.)
