Alright. This is my theory, Jake is already dead. That’s why I’m the beginning when she gets the voice mail the women is crying and telling her she’s sorry and they don’t have to talk about it. And if you pay close attention there’s scenes where it makes sense Jake is not actually there.
She wakes and her face is scared yet confident when he isn’t there next to her and after a moment of sitting there, he finally appears peeing on the side. And with the gun scene it’s like she’s in control of it the entire time even when he’s behind her teaching her how to shoot it. And then she takes off running and yet he never catches her? She gets into the lake and a man appears asking her questions, but I don’t think he’s actually there.
He disappears once she no longer looks at him and the gun also disappears and that’s because she never had it. Maybe prior to this day Jake had killed himself or was in a gun accident ? Either way once she runs towards the vehicle she yells out for him. She then gets back in the vehicle and it shows he’s calling her and instead of answering she stares at it.
And the hand is obviously an African American hand so it’s most likely Jake who is obviously dead. So it’s like his ghost is there for her through the pain and manic episode she may be experiencing.
