The main opposition to the Gulf-Porsche team was Ferrari with their 512 model. Pedro Rodriguez set a new lap record of 3mins, 16.5 seconds, which was nine seconds faster than the current F1 lap record. With an astonishing speed of 257 kms an hour, these were the worldʼs fastest racing cars.
