Actually, compared to today's standard transmissions, this is a very crude gear box. The gears in today's transmissions are cut at an angle and called helical cut gears. That reduces the noise of the gears about 50%. Additionally, this IS NOT a synchro transmission, and 99% of today's transmissions are, so there are a lot of parts in today's transmission,
specifically the synchro rings, that are not reflected in this video. It is a very good representation of ratios, and multiplication and reduction theory based on the number of gear teeth. In watching this again, after some comments directed my way, I will concur that synchro mechanisms are discussed, and are a good example of how they work. Now for the fun of it, find a video of the Tremec 6 speeds, or ZF 8 speeds. Lots more spinning levers.
