As they make nachos in the kitchen, a father regales his daughter with his accomplishments, telling her how he and her mother helped the world with their humanitarian efforts. He's trying to connect to his daughter, who mostly stays silent as he talks. But the more he talks, the less he seems to connect with her --
and the longer and more grandiose (and funny) his stories become. Did he really change the world in the ways he says? Subtle, well-acted and keenly sensitive to complicated emotional family dynamics, this short drama -- directed by Anna Maguire and adapted from a Dave Eggers short story -- captures a moment in a family's history: a father who
disguises his vulnerability with self-importance, and a distant daughter who keeps her cards close to her chest. The film's 10 minutes may focus on one conversation -- but it beautifully captures how a relationship ebbs and flows over the course of a lifetime.
