2011-14 Challengers
, Chargers, 300s
, Durangos, and 2012-14 Grand Cherokees with the 5.7 or 3.6 liter engine and 160, 180, or 220 amp alternator, may have sudden alternator failure which can cause stalling or, possibly, a fire.
This is recall T36, expected to start on August 24. 442,214 vehicles are affected in the United States.
The issue is a diode failing due to cyclical loads induced by the electrohydraulic steering (EHPS). Failed diodes can also short, resulting in heat, smoke, or fire within the alternator. The recall replaces the alternators with upgraded units.
