Default Oil analysis

I (dealer) changed my oil/filter at 3,000, made the second one at 6,000....wanted to keep things clean inside the engine...no particles.Car has 11,000 miles on it now...electronic dash says oil has 75% life.I had expected somewhere to see on the electronic dash, a notice to change

the oil, since I had read about it...figured my particular cardid not have that feature. I may go longer this time around. Mobile one can go

miles. So far I'm using dealer's cheaper oil. Maybe I should get the dealers more expensive oil and see if it makes any difference. It would be nice if I could be sure the tech actually puts in the better oil. I don't trust when I cannot see for myself.Plan B would be to hand Mobile One to

the tech and hope it really gets into my engine.Plan C would be to pay the dealer for cheaper oil change, then dump it and put in Mobile One myself.....and see if oil life changes.I want to avoid the dealer telling me that the warranty won't be honored....and I don't want to 1.hurt my

motor and 2. don't want the dealer to hurt it either. We've come a long way.---End Quote---Can't hurt to get the factory particles out. No matter what oil you put in it, the oil change indicator isn't going to be impressed. It's some algorythm that takes into account engine rpm, speed, and

who knows what else. Basically, if you are driving 70 mph for 1000 miles, the life will go down less percent ticks than if you drive it around town for 1000 miles. You don't want to exceed the manual recommendations for mileage no matter what the oil maker says. Mobil even says

that on the label of their "long life" whatever oil... Any decent name brand oil that says MS-6395 on the label is fine. See my latest oil analysis above....So, based on your numbers above.. last oil change at 6,000, and now at 11,000 that's 5,000 miles. Given that the meter says 75 live

remaining, that means it probably wouldn't say change oil now until 20,000 miles on oil if your driving pattern for the prior 5,000 miles didn't change. I would have to guess for it to decrement so slowly - unless you

accidentally reset it since last oil change - most of those miles were highway? At this rate, it would be 26,000 miles on the odometer - or 12 months since last - when you are due for then next change. That's why they say change it when it says to, or 10,000 miles since last change

if not told to do it earlier. No need for shorter intervals with brand name oil.You mentioned dumping whatever the dealer puts in. No need for that. If you are willing to do that, then you could just change your own, and put whatever you like best in it. QS Synthetic is $20 a jug at

WalMart. That's what I used for the past two intervals, and showed good on oil analysis. M1 is a little more. WalMart even has the Mopar filter. Take a

picture of the receipt and the odometer and keep them somewhere safe. That will prove you did it. I do my own because I then know that it's done. And, it's done right, and your drain plug hasn't been nearly stripped. I've watched the quick lube people at the dealer, and was not impressed.
