Kelly Crandall January 9, 2019 12:26 PM GMS Racing and 2016 Truck Series champion Johnny Sauter are parting ways, effective immediately.The team made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, but a reason for the split was not revealed. Sauter had driven the No. 21 Chevrolet since 2016, winning the championship in his first season with the organization.“We cannot thank Johnny enough for his contributions to the growth and success of GMS Racing,” GMS team president Mike Beam said. “He won the first championship for us and added a lot of trophies to our shop. We wish him all the best for his future endeavors, both in and out of racing.”

In his three years with the team, Sauter won 13 races and made the Championship 4 in each. Last year, Sauter tied champion Brett Moffitt for a series-high six wins on his way to finishing fourth in the championship. Plans for the No. 21 team going forward have not been announced.
