Everyone acid dipped their cars back then! The Sam Posey Challenger had to have a new roof installed because the inspectors elbow dented the roof when he leaned on it. That was in 1970, 2 years after the "blatant cheating". By then it got to a point where it was practically mandatory (though still illegal) to dip the cars just for the simple fact that you were sure to lose if you didn't since so many teams were doing it. The only reason why they almost never got caught was because the teams had fooling the inspectors down to a science. "Blatant cheating" is a blatant over exaggeration.
