CFRC started as a one mile road course in an industrial area of Orlando.
Trailers were parked in such a way around the edges as to keep down the noise.
In the beginning only Go Karts raced there.

Later, Imports autocrossed around the huge tractor tires that protected the phone poles.

It was later expanded to a 1/8 mile drag strip and eventually a drifting track.
It was the place to be. The owner spent a lot of money on improvements.
---------------------

Merv, a dual citizen had been building up car meets at Philippe Park in Clearwater.
I cooked hundreds of free hamburgers until the meet got to around 8oo cars and we parked across the road,
in the parking lot, and a couple fields.

Show-off Buttheads drifted, burned out, spun, and tore up the fields, destroyed the grass, sped through the park,
and got us kicked out. General principle: Misuse it and you lose it.

The Hot Rodders still take over the last pavillion once per year. We have to get verbal "permission/permits"
now and that pretty much is just to keep out the buttheads. It's been a while since imports have been there.
--------------------------
Merv went to Texas for a while. I started looking for a place to hold the huge meets.
I considered the FIRM in Starke FL. I also talked to CFRC.
----------------------------
By the time Merv got back to FL, the drag strip had been built at CFRC, and there was no field and no BBQ grills
to be had anymore. Merv's "Squadron One" car club had dissipated, scattered to the winds.......
I still see a car sometimes with the vintage "Squadron One" sticker up the right side of the windshield.

The county started giving hassles to CFRC over anything and everything and eventually shut it down,
pushing the car enthusiasts back onto the street.

If the county politicians had any brains, they would have found a way to keep CFRC open
and found a way to make money from it..
