Marshall Pruett | 23 hours ago WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is taking a fresh approach to nominating the featured brand for its annual Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. IMSA, which celebrates its 50th anniversary as a sanctioning body in 2019, will be the central focus for the award-winning vintage racing festival. After decades of selecting auto manufacturers as the key draw to the Monterey event, IMSA’s appeal through generations of fans who watched GTP, GTO, GTU, GT, and other classes race around the 2.2-mile road course, under IMSA sanction during the American Le Mans Series era, and more recently under the reformed IMSA banner, should pack the house.
“To be the featured marque of the 2019 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion will be one of the many highlights of our 50th anniversary next year,” said IMSA President Scott Atherton. “IMSA’s long history at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca has spanned over five decades and we are flattered to be among the premier brands that have shared this honor over the years. I can assure you the whole of IMSA – teams, drivers, sponsors and staff are looking forward to celebrating our 50th anniversary with an unprecedented gathering next year of cars and stars from IMSA’s past and present.”
Set for August15-18, more than 500 vintage racing cars will give sports car and open-wheel fans plenty to enjoy next year on the California coast.
“Celebrating the achievements and history of IMSA on the occasion of its 50th anniversary is fitting for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion,” said Timothy McGrane, CEO of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. “IMSA and our facility have long been intertwined and we look forward to working with the team to create a dynamic and entertaining weekend experience for all to enjoy.”
