Luigi Novelli was able to make the Top Fuel field by the slightest of margins at the Jegs Route 66 Nationals and that earned him the difficult task to take on Steve Torrence in round number one. In a stunning turn of events, Novelli was able to take out the Top Fuel points leader Torrence in the first round after Torrence lost traction just past half track. The Torrence team was dumbfounded at the loss since their dragster had nearly been on rails all weekend long.
John Force’s team had their work cut out for them after his hard hit with the wall during the final qualifier on Saturday. It was all hands on deck as the thrash began to bring Force’s back up car to life for the first round today. The hard work paid off as Force made a solid pass without any issues to pick up the round win.
