In late 2012, I was looking to bring someone new on board to lead the USCCA's media team and to provide both a vision and a plan for expanding and improving Concealed Carry Magazine. With a background in law enforcement, firearms training and the publishing world, Kevin Michalowski turned out to be the perfect choice.

When Kevin first jumped in to his new role as executive editor of CCM, he told me that his goal was to make each issue "better than the last."

More than five years and 20-some people added to his team later, Kevin still operates within and works toward that noble mission. Somehow, he manages to deliver on that promise every single time. But it doesn't end there. Kevin's entire team — Beth, Bruce, Carla, Carol, Daniel, Dusty, Ed, Jake, Jared, Kelly, Ken M., Ken W., Kurt, Mark B., Mark W., Robb, Sarah, Thomas and Tyler — plays a role in producing interesting and lifesaving content here at the USCCA. And people even outside the world of firearms and self-defense have started taking notice.

You may recall that in 2016, the Niche Council named Concealed Carry Magazine the "Best Consumer Publication" in the nation. In 2017, they named CCM the "Best Association Magazine" in the nation. Both years, the USCCA's "ultimate resource for responsibly armed Americans" beat out more than 200 other candidates across various industries.

I'm honored to report that in 2018, Niche Media bestowed upon us not one but THREE premier awards:
  1. Best Niche Use of Video ("Proving Ground" series)
  2. Best B2C Magazine (Concealed Carry Magazine)
  3. Best Niche Media Company (Delta Defense/USCCA)

Robb Conlon, national sales representative for Armed American Radio, was on hand to accept the "hat trick" of awards at the 12[SUP]th[/SUP] Annual Niche Media Conference, held March 5 to 7, 2018, in Louisville, Kentucky. Robb told me, "I had literally everyone come up to me asking about our culture, our company and how they could hire better to build their product. It was unreal because everyone wanted to know what the secret was. I told them plenty of things, but dedication to a cause, a drive to outdo each previous issue and the right people in the organization were the top three."

Kevin weighed in as well: "The fact that we won three awards in three different categories shows the overall quality of our entire team. This level of work is never the result of the efforts of just one person. We have an amazing team and I am proud to be a part of it."

Honestly, I believe the USCCA delivers the best self-defense content in the nation. I'm humbled to have someone like Kevin leading the great group of people that helps to make that happen.

Congratulations, team.

Take Care and Stay Safe,

Tim Schmidt
